When the light returns

After months of darkness, the Arctic begins to awaken. From early February, the light slowly returns to Svalbard, casting long shadows and bathing the snow-covered landscape in soft twilight.

This tour lets you witness one of the most atmospheric moments of the year – when the light reclaims the sky, and silence meets brilliance across the frozen valleys.

With easy terrain and close proximity to Longyearbyen, this is an ideal snowmobile trip for both beginners and those looking to experience the changing light of Svalbard

Embark on a snowmobile journey to areas that have been inaccessible since the snow melted last spring. Our exploration leads us to Nordenskiöldland, where the snow reflects the limited light available, creating a mesmerizing spectrum of blue hues. Anticipation for this moment has been building among all the locals on Svalbard throughout the dark season.

🌅 The Return of Arctic Light

In early February, the sun still hides below the horizon – but the sky glows in rich tones of blue, purple and orange. Snow reflects this shifting palette, creating a surreal, dreamlike world that only exists for a few weeks each year.

🏔 Ride Through Frozen Valleys

We travel into Adventdalen and other surrounding valleys, crossing wide open landscapes shaped by snow and wind. The route is moderate and accessible, allowing time to enjoy the views and take photos at several scenic stops.

🦌 Wildlife and Polar Silence

This is a peaceful time of year, and a perfect opportunity to observe the raw stillness of Svalbard. With some luck, we may spot reindeer wandering the valleys or Arctic foxes darting across the snow.
