Sommer Adventureon a snowmobile

Join our summer adventure for a unique combination of hiking and snowmobiling. This trip offers the perfect opportunity to relish stunning views around Longyearbyen and witness an island slowly awakening from its hibernation.

We kick off our adventure with a briefing at our Explorers’ Club to prepare you for the journey. Following that, we’ll head to our starting point, Nybyen, and embark on a one-hour hike up to the Longyear glacier. The excitement builds as we navigate small streams and rocky terrain. Once atop the glacier, you’ll receive an introduction to snowmobile driving.

Covering a distance of 4 km on the glacier, we’ll reach the pass at 600 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, a breathtaking panorama unfolds, offering stunning views of Longyearbyen and the Fardalen valley. Fardalen, surrounded by snow-covered mountains, is renowned as the local snowmobilers’ “playground.” Amidst this scenic beauty, we’ll savor a delightful lunch and warm drinks.

Descending from the glacier takes approximately 30 minutes of driving, bringing us back down to explore millennia-old moraine areas on foot. If the ground is devoid of snow and luck is on your side, you might come across a fossil or two.

To ensure your comfort, we recommend wearing warm and windproof clothing. If you don’t have high mountain boots, you are welcome to borrow snowmobile boots from us.
