Ny-Ålesund – The Northernmost Town in the WorldExplore a historic Arctic outpost, once the starting point for expeditions to the North Pole

Embark on a full-day journey to Ny-Ålesund, a remote Arctic settlement rich in polar history.
Once a coal mining town, it later became a launch site for legendary explorers racing to the North Pole. Roald Amundsen — the first person to reach both poles — used Ny-Ålesund as his base for the 1926 Airship NORGE expedition.

Today, this peaceful outpost is home to international research stations and stands as one of the northernmost communities in the world. Join us to uncover its stories, landscapes, and atmosphere.

What You’ll Experience

🚤 Scenic Voyage Through Arctic Waters

We’ll begin with hotel pickup and transfer to the harbor, where your captain and boat await. After a safety briefing, we’ll sail north through Forlandssundet, passing Poolepynten, a well-known walrus site. If conditions allow, we may stop for a short walrus observation before continuing.

The journey takes 3–4 hours and leads us into Kongsfjorden, a stunning fjord often scattered with icebergs from surrounding glaciers. On clear days, we may see “Tre Kroner”, three jagged nunataks rising from Kongbreen Glacier.

🏘 Discovering Ny-Ålesund

Upon arrival, we disembark and begin our exploration of this extraordinary town.
We’ll visit the historic airship mast used by Amundsen in 1926, and you’ll have the chance to send a card from the northernmost post office in the world.
A stop at the northernmost shop allows time for souvenir browsing.

🍲 Lunch with a View

Before heading back, we’ll find a scenic spot for a warm homemade lunch, served outdoors with Arctic views all around — the perfect way to close this unforgettable northern journey.

We had a lot of fun, learned new things and saw some wildlife as well.

Myself and my family went on the day excursion via boat to Ny Alesund. We had such a fun day and were well taken care of.
