Join us on our day trip to Ny-Ålesund, a former mining town and gateway to the Arctic. Furthermore, it was the starting point for famous explorers’ race to the North pole. Roald Amundsen, known as the first person to reach both the South- and North pole, used Ny-Ålesund as his base when he journeyed to the pole in 1926 with the Airship NORGE.
We will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the harbor where our boat and captain await us. After the safety briefing, we will head out to Isfjorden and set course north. On our way through Forlandssundet we will pass Poolepynten. This is a well-known walrus hole-out place. If it’s the right time of the year, we will have a brief stop here to take a closer look at these extraordinary animals. After a 3-4 hours drive, we will reach Kongsfjorden. If the weather is nice, we are able to see “Tre kroner”, three nunataks that sticks out of the beautiful Kongbreen glacier. Kongsfjorden is very often filled with icebergs that has been calving from the huge glaciers that the fjord is surrounded by.
When we arrive in Ny-Ålesund we will go ashore to explore this cozy little and historical town. We will visit the mast where Roald Amundsen attached his Airship while he was waiting to set off to the North pole. Here we will also find the northern most post office where you can stamp your passport and send postcards. After the guided tour, you will have time to shop for souvenirs in the northern most shop in the world. Before we head back to Longyearbyen we will look for a nice spot where we will enjoy our lunch.

Better Moments has the right to change the route and destination of the trip due to the weather conditions. The weather forecast is never completely reliable in the areas we are travelling in, therefore like on all other boat trips, we always want to go out and see for ourselves if we can reach our destination. In case the weather prevents us form getting all the way, we will spend the day in the beautiful Isfjorden, visiting glaciers and searching for wildlife.
We require a minimum of 8 persons on this trip. The minimum age is 6 years.
Please let us know if you have any food allergies or restrictions.
