A historical travelalong the west coast of Spitsbergen

Embark on our captivating journey along the West Coast of Spitsbergen. Enroute, we’ll traverse historic mining settlements, explore remnants of trappers’ stations frozen in time, and encounter cutting-edge scientific installations. Join us for a unique exploration that weaves together the past, present, and future of this Arctic frontier.

In Svalbard, we encounter our eastern neighbors while heading west. Just 60 kilometers from Longyearbyen, we’ll pass through Barentsburg and other fascinating locations. Our journey unfolds through majestic valleys and along the scenic coast of Spitsbergen. The terrain is relatively easy, and our skilled guides will tailor the experience to accommodate even those new to snowmobiles. Traversing landscapes rich in history, once frequented by trappers, whale hunters, miners, and scientists, this snowmobile trip is a nostalgic journey to an era when the world was divided between east and west.

Known as the “little Russia” of Svalbard, Barentsburg proudly displays the slogan “Our goal – communism!” as we enter. During our break in Barentsburg, we’ll take a stroll through the city. Please note that we won’t have access to the city’s facilities or buildings, and there won’t be an opportunity to purchase souvenirs or other items in this Russian settlement.

We’ll make several stops along our route, delving into discussions about the surrounding nature and historical remnants, providing excellent opportunities for capturing memorable photographs. Amidst the day’s journey, we’ll discover a scenic spot to relax and savor a homemade soup for lunch, thoughtfully brought from Longyearbyen. Weather and time permitting, we might make a brief stop at Colesbay.
