🏘 Barentsburg – Soviet Legacy at the Edge of the Arctic
As we arrive in Barentsburg, a town known for its Soviet-era architecture and iconic “Our goal – communism!” sign, we’ll take a short walk through its streets. Please note that we won’t have access to the town’s facilities or shops, and purchases are not possible during the stop.
🧭 Historical Sites and Coastal Landscapes
The route follows a relatively easy trail, offering plenty of photo opportunities and interpretive stops. We’ll explore valleys once home to trappers, whalers, and miners, and pass by remains of early Arctic industries and exploration.
🍲 Outdoor Lunch & Scenic Stops
At a picturesque location along the trail, we’ll stop for a warm homemade soup brought from Longyearbyen. If time and weather allow, we may also include a brief visit to the abandoned site of Colesbay – a haunting reminder of Svalbard’s industrial past
