Walrus colony, PoolepyntenOur Story and TeamSmall groups. Big moments. Real Arctic.

At Better Moments, we’ve spent years working and living in Svalbard — exploring its valleys, navigating its fjords, and welcoming guests from all over the world. After working with various guiding companies in Longyearbyen, we decided it was time to do things our own way.

In the autumn of 2013, Better Moments AS was founded. We invested in brand-new equipment and snowmobiles, determined to create something more personal, more authentic, and less crowded.

By 2015, we had expanded into summer adventures, offering small boat tours along the west coast of Spitsbergen. A year later, in 2016, we welcomed our first guests into our newly restored base at Kuhaugen — a former dynamite storage building just outside Longyearbyen, now transformed into a warm and welcoming Explorers’ Club.

In the summer of 2016, we introduced our first closed RIB boat, allowing us to extend our summer offerings and explore further in comfort and safety.

In 2024, Better Moments proudly became part of the Skua Nature Group, an international operator committed to conservation and sustainable tourism across several countries.

What has never changed is our commitment to quality over quantity:

  • Maximum 6 snowmobiles on winter tours

  • Maximum 12 guests per boat in summer
This ensures a calm, safe, and meaningful Arctic experience — far from the crowded groups run by larger companies.

If you’re planning a private tour or traveling with a larger group, feel free to contact us directly. We’ll be happy to design a tailor-made solution.

We look forward to sharing the Arctic with you!

Noora is a passionate adventurer who was born and raised in Finnish Lapland. Being outdoors, respecting and learning about nature has always been one of the most important things to her. In 2014, during her studies to become Youth worker and being a downhill ski instructor, she decided to help one local Safari Company in her home town Levi, doing mostly snowmobile safaris and hiking trips. That time changed her life and when her studies were done, she started to work as a full time wilderness guide and has been more than happy to made that decision. It has lead her to many new adventures, new countries, taught her a lot and given her a unique way to meet people from around the world and to share stories with them. She is looking forward to show and guide you through the beautiness of the Arctic.

Charlotte

Charlotte

Guide

Before becoming a guide, Charlotte has worked as a dentist in France and Guadeloupe, a carribean island. Her former work also brought her on a humanitarian mission in French Guyana, in the middle of the Amazonian forest to a village only accessible with a two-days journey of pirogue.
Her love for sailing and adventures eventually led her to Svalbard in summer 2024 to complete the circumnavigation of Spitsbergen on a private sailboat. She instantly fell in love with the arctic.
And after a few years in the warmth of the equatorial latitudes, it seemed all natural to cross the Atlantic to move to her new home in Longyearbyen. She since has taken the SGO winter course to become a qualified guide in the arctic harsh nature. She speaks French, English and Spanish fluently, a bit of German and is learning Norwegian.

Carrie

Carrie

Guide

After practising as a veterinarian for eight years, this bush child returned to her first love of adventure guiding and adventure-based learning in 2023. A registered hiking and sea kayaking guide in South Africa and a Level 1 Authorised Svalbard Guide, Carrie has five years of cumulative experience between South Africa, Norway and Svalbard, and this will be her second season with Better Moments.
She is passionate about facilitating immersive wilderness experiences for guests and about fostering an appreciation of nature in the next generation. One of the things she loves most about the Arctic is that it reminds us of our human fragility, which tends to simplify life and bring us down to earth. When she isn’t guiding or editing a fiction manuscript, you’ll find her on the salsa dance floor or volunteering with her search and rescue unit.
