Walrus colony, PoolepyntenAbout usHistory and meet our Team

Better Moments’ team have years of experience from working and living in Svalbard. We have worked for different guide companies in town, but are now doing things our own way.

The fall of 2013 we started Better Moments AS. Brand new equipment and new snowmobiles were purchased. In 2016 we decorated the old Dynamite storage at Kuhaugen outside Longyearbyen and are now welcoming our scooter guests here.

After a great first year, we decided to start with closed RIB boat trips along the west coast of Spitsbergen. And 2015 was our first year we offered summer activities. Summer 2016 we got our new boat and have been extending our summer offer since.

Better Moments have a maximum of 6 snowmobiles on our winter trips, and a maximum 12 persons on our boat trips. We do this so our guests get the best experience possible. More private and less hectic than the big groups in the larger companies.

If your group is bigger than this, or you want a private experience, we recommend to contact us by mail or use the contact form below.

We hope to see you soon!

Julian

Captain

Julian is one of our Captains and has been at sea for over 15 years. He has navigated to all corners of the globe from Alaska to the Gulf of Guinea and the North Sea to the South Pacific on all kinds of ships. After a career on commercial ships Julian took his love for adventure and the seas to the next level and commanded vessels working on ocean conservation. He faced challenging missions with largely volunteer crews, mentoring them from enthusiastic ‘green’ hands to determined crews capable of weathering storms and defending the oceans. Originally from Scotland, Julian first visited Svalbard in 2016 and was captured by the rugged beauty, the history and harsh but fragile nature which sustains a unique range of life. Last year he was called back to the cold north and decided to spend a longer time in the Arctic following a few years in tropical climes. With his years of experience, he will safely command the boats of Better Moments in this unique arctic wilderness taking you to remote and beautiful landscapes and nature.

Here, he discovered his love for dogs, the outdoors and the North and decided to turn guiding into his future profession. Subsequently, he decided to take things to the next level, and joined the Better Moments team on Svalbard. Jenka

Jenka

Guide

Originally being an PE teacher from Belgium, Jenka has always had an appetite for adventure and wild places. In 2019, she started working as an outdoor guide in the Arctic. It was there and then that she realized the untamed and remote corners of the earth had found a special place in her heart. During the last years, she has lived and worked in the Argentinean Patagonia, New Zealand and the Norwegian Arctic. Bringing people together in those special places, and showing them the importance to cherish and respect the nature, is what thrives her the most.
When Jenka is not paddling, tour skiing, rock climbing or canyoning; you will most likely find her knitting in a cosy coffee house, foraging the nearby secondhand bookstore, or sharing an XL bag of chips with her good friends. She looks forward to share experiences in Svalbard with people from all over the world. Sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge, and helping them to develop relationships with the wilderness that she hopes will last their lifetimes.

Joffery

Joffery

Guide

Hello everyone! I’m a French/Norwegian nature and outdoor enthusiast who fell in love with the Scandinavian wilderness. Growing up near the Alps, I developed a deep connection with nature and a love for outdoor adventures and the peace that I find surrounded in the wilderness. During my final year of a marketing degree, I visited Norway and never looked back, trading my career path for my passion, and becoming a wilderness guide, photographer and instructor. Before settling in Norway, I lived and worked in Austria, Germany, Finland, and France, gaining diverse experiences that enriched my life and skills and taught me a lot about myself. Over the past ten years in Scandinavia, I’ve become an outdoor guide, photographer, ski and mountain bike instructor, and kayak tour leader. My love for the north has led me to move even further to Svalbard, where I continue to share the beauty of the wilderness and meet amazing people. Join me on an adventure in the mountains, and let’s explore the breathtaking wilderness together! See you around!
